Welcome to The Museum of Small and Important Things by artist, illustrator, and writer Allie Sullberg.

The Museum of Small and Important Things is about the joy of being present and noticing our inner and outer worlds, and finding creative ways of participating in, documenting, and processing those worlds. These practices are designed as intentional antidotes to the disconnection fueled by passive material and digital consumption.

It’s a place where I share artifacts from a creative life. Creative meaning seeing things and collects things and turning them into other things. Like seeing two birds chirping at each other and imagining what they are talking about. The imaginary thought is an artifact.

I write about things I’ve made, things I’m making, creativity, noticing things, and being a full-time freelance artist/illustrator/writer. I also share stories about things that matter to me, like art, community, and wellness.

On Tuesdays, I share ideas, works in progress, or an essay. On Fridays, I share a creative prompt. Emails too frequent? You can individually unsubscribe from either of these days, no problem!

Yes! The Museum is a real place. I wrote about it. And here are some other popular posts to give you a sense of what I share here:

About moi

My name is Allie Sullberg, and I’m an artist, writer, and illustrator based in San Francisco. My illustrations appear regularly in The New York Times, and I've had the pleasure of working with a range of clients including The New Yorker, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Figma, The ACLU, and Netflix.

I’m a multimedia artist and tend to paint and make mixed-media short films. I’m inspired by documentation and collection as attempts to explore and map our ever-interesting world. I am currently writing and illustrating a book that blends illustration, poetry, and prose, sparking subtle shifts in perspective and fostering deeper connections with our surroundings, communities, and the present moment.
